Chinese buying more luxury goods at home

Chinese shoppers are increasingly buying luxury goods in mainland China, turning away from high-end stores abroad and in Hong Kong, a survey indicated Thursday. The poll by market research firm Ipsos found that Chinese buyers preferred to shop on the mainland for luxury goods in five of its seven categories — watches, cosmetics, clothes, shoes, and wines and cigars. Last year, mainland Chinese preferred to buy top-end items at home in only three categories. The semi-autonomous city of Hong Kong remains their preferred destination only for jewellery and handbags, despite higher taxes on luxury goods on the mainland. Louis Vuitton was the respondents’ top luxury brand, named by 39 percent of them, followed by Chanel on 17 percent. Seven percent picked Gucci, Hermes had six percent and Christian Dior five percent. A total of 1,135 people on mainland China with annual incomes higher than 100,000 yuan ($15,900) were questioned last month for the China Luxury Forecast, jointly car...

The event took place on June 14, and all guests were mightily impressed by the glamorous gown worth a whopping 4,354,149 Euro ( £3.5 million approx. $5.5 million). The incredibly expensive dress flaunts 50 two-carat diamonds: 25 on the shoulder shrug and 25 on the peplum. There is also a center piece of shimmering five-carat black diamonds, and a border of white diamonds inlaid with white gold. All this, plus the material, adds up to quite an impressive weight for a nightgown: 13 kilograms (approx. 28.5 pounds). Michael Jackson was indeed planning for a huge comeback for himself. But unfortunately, as we saw, life doesn’t necessarily go the way we planned it. Now we are hearing that the pop legend was involved in talks with famous designer Christian Audigier to start a collection of his own. But his sudden death left things mid-way and now his designer friend has decided to make his dream come true. Apparently, MJ was able to design 100 patterns that included a pair of rhinestone socks and a rhinestone glove. He had been working on these with Audigier ever since 2007. Plans were to launch it with Jackson’s ‘this is it’ comeback tour. The clothing line was recently unveiled. All of the designs are Michael Jackson originals.
