Brilliant Award-Winning Romanian Tourism Campaign

Image
A perfect response to negative comments about Romanian immigration by the British government. Back in January, news spread that Britain was considering running an anti-immigration campaign in Romania and Bulgaria tagged, “You Won’t Like It Here”. People all over Europe were nonplussed by the lack of tact shown by The Brits. But Gândul, a daily Romanian newspaper, saw an opportunity where others saw only red. They launched a cheeky response campaign tagged, “We May Not Like Britain, But You’ll Love Romania.” They placed the ads on Facebook, and even bought some outdoor media in Britain. The campaign just won a Gold Award at AdStars, one of Asia’s biggest advertising awards festivals. Well-deserved. Look for the campaign to clean up next Summer at Cannes.   Via colorsinbucharest.wordpress.com Gandul "WHY DON'T YOU COME OVER?" Explosive investigation: Prince Charles really is Dracula’s descendant!

Image
When he said he was a descendant of Tepes, the British crown prince was not kidding. The Windsor family can be traced back to the dynasty of the Basarabi rulers of Muntenia.  Our historiography did not pay attention to this aspect, while the Hungarian one, interested in outlining the Hungarian ancestors of the British royal house, blurred out the genealogic tree where it intersected with Romanian rulers. Using documentary sources, Formula AS magazine restored the historical truth. The British crown prince can call himself Charles of Romania and not as a joke! Prince Charles: <<I have Transylvanian roots!>> My genealogy shows I hail from Vlad Tepes (the Impaler), Prince Charles recently told a British journalist who had come to Transylvania to convince himself of the British crown prince’s passion for the region. “So I have some roots here,” the prince added. The journalist smiled and probably thought, “Prince Charles hails from the blood-thirsty Dracula! This will sound...

Pair of Pearl Earring Originally Bought by King Carol II of Romania Auctioned for £1.6m

Image
Sometimes you don’t realize the value of what you have and you need the others to tell you that what you possess is invaluable. An old piece of pearl earrings was lying neglected in the back of a desk drawer for over 35 years in Wiltshire but has now fetched £1.6m at an auction . The pearl jewelry has a history to boot. It was originally a gift from a Romanian king to his mistress, who left the pearls to a British friend on her death in 1977. The friend who got the earrings didn’t realize it's worth. She didn’t like the design as she found it to be too large and ostentatious to wear. The earrings were consigned to drawer and came out only when they were inherited by the lady’s nephew. He had taken some articles to an auction and casually showed the earring to the auctioneer. He was taken aback when told about the real value of the earrings. Apart from the beautiful and luxurious design its historical association has made it a collector’s item and has generated huge i...

This is a quite rare phenomenon according to the specialists, considering that the sea water is salty. But as the sea salinity dropped, the extremely low temperatures in the past days formed quite a thick ice layer. In some areas the ice reached 20 meters. The last time when the sea froze was five years ago. It was colder at the sea shore than in Poiana Brasov at 1,800 meters...
