Sir Jonathan Ive, Head Designer at Apple Buys a $17 Million Home on San Francisco’s Gold Coast


 Sir Jonathan Paul ‘Jony’ Ive is responsible, to a great extent in making Apple what it is today. He has led the design team of Apple since 1996. In a significant move, watched by the entire industry, he has gone ahead and bought a stunning house on San Francisco’s ultra-exclusive ‘Gold Coast’ for $17 million. Sir Jonathan who received his British Knighthood recently is considered one of the world’s smartest designers. 

He is credited with being the man behind many of the blockbuster Apple’s products. He has become a rich man in the process with a fortune estimated at around $130 million. Since the death of Steve Jobs there have been rumors that the British designer might go back home and leave Apple. But his buying a luxury home in San Francisco will reassure those who want him to continue working for Apple and come up with many more brilliant products.



The House was Earlier Listed for $25 Million

The luxury home is located on the city’s one of the most exclusive blocks at 2808 Broadway Street. The house was originally built in 1927 and designed by Willis Polk & Company. It was labeled the most expensive home in San Francisco when it was earlier listed for $25 million. The well maintained house exudes elegance and warmth. 

The house has a timeless brick design exterior, a slate roof and a deep portico entry. The house boasts of a total of 7,274 square feet of living space that includes six bedrooms and eight and half bathrooms. The other highlights are a oak paneled library, an elegant and well maintained courtyard garden and six wood-burning fireplaces. The house also features a two bedroom and one bathroom staff apartment.


San Francisco Neighborhood Boasts of Several Celebrities

The house boasts sweeping views of the San Francisco Bay that stretches from the Golden Gate Bridge, across Russian Hill, and to Alcatraz Island. Steel frame windows that are operable, hinder the views to the minimum. The kitchen features granite slab countertops, a tall box-beam ceiling, and a large center island with butcher-block prep space. 

The master-suite features a wood-burning fireplace with marble surround, custom blinds and ample wardrobe storage space. The other exclusive features include a fitness room, a sundeck with spa, a laundry room and security alarm system. Sir Jonathan Ive will have many celebrities as neighbors including Peter Thiel, founder of PayPal, renowned Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage, Larry Ellison and Mark Pincus.
