BMW, Audi Are The Most Searched For Luxury Brands
What do luxury buyers search for online? That was the big question that Digital Luxury Group decided to solve. The company sifted through Google and Bing search results relating to 500 luxury brands. Their job was a humongous one. The team had to study 470 million searches over the 2011 period. Last week, Digital Luxury Group finally released a list of the top 50 luxury brands that people were searching for online. Based on this list, it was not too difficult to pick out the most searched for segment. That honor went to luxury cars, which accounted for 48 percent of all search results.
It was found that six of the top ten searched for entries belonged to the luxury car segment. These included BMW, Audi, Lexus, Mercedes-Benz, Acura and Cadillac. More strikingly, BMW and Audi took the top two spots on the top 50 list.
However, the joyride for luxury cars was far from complete. Porsche appeared at No. 11, while Land Rover and Corvette took the eighteenth and nineteenth spots respectively. Audi also appeared four times on the list of top 15 most searched for car models in the US. BMW managed two entries with its 3 series and 5 series models.
Another top performing segment was (not surprisingly) fashion. Luxury fashion brands accounted for a quarter of all luxury brand searches over the given period. The most searched for fashion brand was Coach, which also took the third spot in the top 50. Chanel and Louis Vuitton grabbed the fourth and fifth spots. Luxury hotels accounted for 13 percent of all searches while luxury watches, beauty and jewelry accounted for 7 percent, 5 percent and 3 percent respectively.
