Bonhams Fine Wine Sale Fetches £910,000
On 7 July, the Bonhams Fine Wine Sale attracted a lot of attention. More importantly, it raised a great deal of money. The Fine Wine Sale recorded sales of over £910,000. 93 percent of the fine wines on sale were sold by value. However, the star of the show here was a case of 1988 Romanee-Conti. A UK buyer picked up this case of a dozen bottles for a staggering £74,750.
Romanee-Conti came up trumps a second time when a buyer from South America shelled out £50,600 for six bottles of 1985 Romanee-Conti. Another big winner from the evening was a collection of fifty-nine bottles of Chateau Mouton Rothschild. This set of nearly 5 dozen bottles dated between 1945 and 2004 fetched £52,900 at the high profile wine event. This particular collection is all the more attractive because the labels on each vintage were created by artists of the time, people like Pablo Picasso, Salvadore Dali and Andy Warhol among others.
12 bottles of 1959 Chateau Mouton Rothschild fetched £18,400 at the wine sale. Another popular pick was Chateau Lafite Rothschild. Five cases of the latter belonging to a 1986 vintage were sold for £16,300 each. A buyer from North America picked up a case of 1966 La Tache for £16,100. And another top seller at the Bonhams event was a case of 1982 Petrus for £43,700.
Richard Harvey M.W., Head of Bonhams Wine Department described the 2011 wine sale as a “fantastic result”. He called it “our best sale ever at New Bond Street”.
