Modern Perfumes with a Bottle Inspired by Constantin Brancusi

Image
As a perfume enthusiast, I love when as much thought is put into the design of the bottle as the alchemy of the perfume itself. After all, perfumes are meant to be displayed and seen, especially so that you don’t forget to use them like I do. I don’t think that would be a problem with Xinú, a bespoke perfumery line from Mexico whose bottle design was a collaboration between Esrawe Studio, Cadena & Asociados, and Nouvel Studio. An elegant and minimalist object on any vanity, the bottle for the line was inspired by sculptures of Romanian artist Constantin BrâncuÈ™i, geometry in nature, and is formed with two domes placed on top of each other. The top lid is handcrafted with certified woods, a reflection of the essence of the perfume line, which is based on the aromatic and botanical scents of the Americas. The blown glass container was developed in collaboration with Nouvel Studio and doubles as an incense holder or vase when the bottle eventually empties. Using ...

Les Grands Extraits: Chanel’s Most Expensive Perfume

Image
Chanel No.5 is probably the most iconic perfume ever. Marilyn Monroe once quipped, ‘What do I wear in bed? Why, Chanel No. 5, of course.’ These words were enough to immortalize the perfume’s reputation. But the fashion house believes in keeping alive the allure of the perfume. They have unveiled a rare collectible version of its perfumes. The edition is called Grand Extrait, and will cost an eye popping £2732.24 per bottle! And it is not the fragrant concoction that is behind this exorbitant price tag. The perfume will remain the same. It is the packaging that has added the value. The bottle has been crafted in a mold by a specialized glass maker, which is then placed in a hand-assembled and crafted case. Now would someone really pay more than £2500 extra just for the bottle? There is no dearth of people out there with way too much money to splurge. But I would have expected something a bit more eye catching than what Chanel is actually offering. Some time back it had roped in Brad...

Real vs. Fake Paco Rabanne "One Million"

Image
"1 Million" by Paco Rabanne is one of the most common fragrances in the world, and commonly faked, mostly in the 100mL size. Here's the front of the boxes (fake left - Gen right) two differences really. The genuine box has a much shinier gold color to it rather than the nearly mat golf finish on the fake. The print isn't so fine on the fake, on the M bellow the 1 it should have ribs down the middle but the fake some of them are missing.  Bottom of the boxes (fake left - Gen right) has a different layout and the stamped serial number is a bit clearer on the original one.  Tops of the boxes, the PR on the fake isn't quite straight   The backs (fake left - original right) once again different lay out but like I said I'm not sure if this is just an old reused box or a fake one!  Front of the actual bottles. As you can see there is a color difference, the fake has a rosey tinge to the gold where as the real one looks like a lig...

1 Million by Paco Rabanne (2008) perfume review

1 Million by Paco Rabanne (2008) perfume review This high-impact fragrance creates a multi-facetted signature of masculinity. 1 Million has the freshness of grapefruit and invites you into this audacious scent, combining in the top notes with mint and blood mandarin, with a refined yet virile combination of rose, cinnamon, and spicy notes. The base notes remind you of the ultimate velvet harmony of leather, amber, Indonesian patchouli essences and white wood. Once combined, the result is not merely one fragrance but an elegant, one-of-a kind mix of essences. For the iconic bottle, the house of Paco Rabanne tapped the famous industrial designer Noe Duchaufour-Lawrance. Referencing Rabanne's legendary use of metallic colors in fashion, this bottle reinterprets the simple yet breathtakingly beautiful bar of gold. Its "Wild West" type design is a masculine tribute to the pioneers of our childhood memories. Notes :Frosted Grapefruit, Blood Mandarin, Peppermint, Ros...
