Audi has launched Audi City – a new digital showroom based in London that allows customers to browse the company’s range electronically. Potential customers are greeted by three huge screens, each consisting of nine 72-inch panels that have been dubbed as ‘power walls’ by Audi. Any Audi model can be selected and once loaded up on screen at its true-to-life scale, the customer can choose their desired colour and trim and then watch it drive, in its virtual form, on the big screen. The specific engine noise for that car is even piped into the room via overhead speakers to round off the experience. The acoustic system in the shop ensures that sound is individual to the selected car and that it is audible only to that particular customer showing interest in the car. Auto enthusiasts were more than just disappointed when it was revealed, almost at the last minute, that the audi A8 would not be part of the show as had been earlier decided. All those who had been so severely disappointed would now be glad that the project wasn’t scrapped altogether; the Audi A8 made a much publicised debut at Miami. The automobile manufacturers, particularly in Europe, often try their designing skills at creating other modes of transport. Their focus has often been on bicycles and they have designed some great bikes over the years. BMW, Audi, McLaren and Porsche have been designing and producing bikes for years now. Porsche has recently designed two new bikes in its Driver’s Selection range. The new models have been named the Bike RS and the Bike S. Both the models have 29-inch wheels and have been made with lightweight materials to enhance performance. Bike RS weighs in at around 9kg. The weight has been restricted to a low level due to the extensive use of carbon fiber in the frame, forks, handlebars, stem and seat post.
